I'm Back!

This is how Carmel likes to sleep--on her back!!!

This is Carmel being nice enough to pose for the picture (I'm sure she's saying...."I know I'm cute")

More about the weekend later. How was your weekend?

Out Of Town

I will be out of town from Wednesday afternoon until Sunday some time. So I will not be participating in the TT. If you are here looking for one, please look at the 100 things about me and comment on there or just comment on this post so I at least know you stopped by to visit me! I get lonely with no comment. So have a great rest of your week and I'll have pictures from the weekend!

Happy week!

So here is Carmel. I promised another picture way sooner than I posted but eh, sue me! She is absolutely adorable and I get to see her again on Wednesday so you can see how much the little girl has grown. I was out of town from Thursday-Sunday which is why you did not see any updates (did you miss me?--the correct answer is YES!)

I went to a wedding on Friday and a baptism on Sunday so I was quite busy. Fiance is the Godfather for the baptism and the little girl is ADORABLE! I don't think I have any pictures of just her, but next time I'll get one.

Well, I accepted an internship at a hospital near Milwaukee and I'm quite excited about it, but nervous. I don't know how ready I am to start school again, but ready for not huh? It's coming much faster than I anticipated.

I have another wedding this Saturday and I am maid of honor in it. I am very excited and honored about it, but I have to write the speech! I'm nervous about that let me tell you. I don't mind public speaking, but this is talking about marriage and all that jazz and I'm not married yet so who I am to give advice? I'm going to try to be serious (hahahah) but we'll see how that goes. Any suggestions?

So where have all my followers been? Apparently nobody cared I wasn't around since the TT! Well I'm hurt people!

It's that time again!

Well, I was going to skip this week, but hell, I'll join in. I think that Janet took the easy way out and Carmen has some wacky stuff going on, I'm going to be normal this week. Yay!

Thirteen Things about Me (I know you just can't get enough!!!!)

1. I cry easily...just try me...leave a nasty message and see what I do
2. I am very close to my family and love to visit and hang out.
3. I love noodles...just plain love them.
4. I have the two final weddings of the summer this Friday and the next Saturday
5. Fiance's goddaughter gets baptized this weekend so we're going to his home-town.
6. I don't like his home town.
7. I really do like country music (Janet, will you still be my friend?)
8. I haven't really felt like blogging lately.
9. I read at least 10 blogs every day.
10. My parents' new dog is HILARIOUS! She has short stubby legs and is soooo chubby!
11. Fiance makes me laugh at least once a day...it's part of what keeps us sane.
12. He wanted me to do a post of "13 songs we're going to have at our wedding"
13. He usually comes up with my ideas for 13's because I swear he's way more creative then I am.

Blah

So I know I've been horrible at blogging lately. For that I apologize. However, I haven't really been in the blogging mood. I haven't been in the mood for much lately actually! I do have pictures of the new puppy and I'll try to update this post later and post a new picture of Ms. Carmel (Carmen, it's pronounced Car-mel).

How is everyone's week going?

New Puppy

Today is the day...my parents are getting a new puppy. Although I am still sad over the loss of my dog, Cashew, I am excited that my parents are getting another dog. Peanut is very lonely without her friend I think this may help. They get her today at 4:30 and we are naming her Carmel! Here is a preview, but I'm sure I'll have more after this weekend (we're going to visit of course!!!)

--Just what I have *always* wanted!!! Especially living in an apartment, that riding mower will come in handy mowing the lawn I don't have!
3. "Final Notice for Home Depot Gift Card"
--hmmm I don't believe I would have gotten a Home Depot gift card for my non-existent home.
4. "321 Henley Dr."

I could go on forever, but I won't. I'll post tomorrow who won from last week's license plate challenge, but not many of you answered. So feel free to post a guess if you want. I haven't been up on posting this week, sorry about that. It's rude to not leave a comment so take a second and do it!

Honestly nothing ***UPDATED***

Well, for once in my life I don't really have much to say but I felt obligated to give my wonderful "fans" (hahahahaha) a post today! I have to add up all my plates from the game and see who was closest although I think only 3 of you guys guessed. I honestly don't think people read my entire 13's sometimes because the majority of the people don't do what I say in the end! *ahem* Anyway, just saying hi. Anyone have huge weekend plans? Mine includes cleaning, grocery shopping and cleaning some more....what a fun weekend for me!

Happy Friday!

***UPDATE*** So I was just looking around at other blogs and was reading Carmen's blog and saw on her "Favorite Peep's" list was me!!!! Not only was my blog listed but my link is "The Very Funny Amy" WOW! Who knew I was funny? Now this is something I am definitely going to have to share with fiance. Next time he doesn't laugh at one of my jokes, I'm going to have to refer him to Carmen! Thanks, Carmen for making my week with that!

Thirteen Thursday!

I was going to do a picture 13, however, the pictures will take up way too much room. I need to figure out how to do a slide show or something so that you can look at all the pictures without having to waste so much space (or I need to learn how to make them smaller!)

So here is a 13 of where we all went and what we did!

1. Sioux Falls, SD--we went to Falls Park which has beautiful waterfalls and had hiking and biking trails. There is also an observation tower that we climbed to the top of to look at the park from above.
2. Deadwood, SD--we went to Mt. Moriah Cemetary where we climbed all over to find the gravestones that Fiance wanted to see. We also camped in Deadwood for 1 night at a place called Wild Bill's. We also saw the exact location where Wild Bill was shot.
3. Rapid City, SD--we went to Chapel in the Hills which was AWESOME. It's a little church that was assembled in Norway and then taken apart and shipped to South Dakota to be put back together. It's very small, but very cute and is an awesome structure.
4. Outside of Rapid City, SD--We also went to Sitting Bull Crystal Cavern which is right outside of Rapid City. Some of the most beautiful crystals. We had to walk down 10 stories to get to them though!
5. Needles Highway--this was WAY cool and we were able to make it through all the caves and saw the "Needle's Eye" which was really cool as well!
6. Custer, SD--we went to see Crazy Horse and WOW will that thing be amazing when it's finished! The Mount Rushmore heads will fit into Crazy Horse's head when it's done. We saw a lazer show there that was great!
7. Keystone, SD--Mount Rushmore for fireworks on the 3rd. I do have to say that I will probably never see anything that cool EVER AGAIN!
8. Estes Park, CO--We walked around Estes Park and ate dinner and had homemade ice cream. We camped right outside of Estes Park so that we would be close to Rocky Mountain National Park.
9. Rocky Mountain National Park--We hiked around the park and saw a wonderful waterfall. That is also where the signed that I posted on my last post was from!
10. Denver, CO--we saw the United States Mint building but weren't able to go in because tours are booked through August! We also went to a botanical garden that redeemed us for not being able to see the Mint building.
11. Colorado Springs, CO--we rode the Cog Railway to the top of Pike's Peak and hung out there for about 45 minutes. We got hailed on as we were re-boarding the Railway.
12. Colorado Springs, CO--the next day we went to the Garden of the Gods and I'm telling you, if you go to CO Springs, go to the Garden of the Gods. It was the 2nd time I had been there and I loved it just as much. Fiance had a wonderful time. We hiked all over and got some of the most amazing pictures there!
13. CO Springs, CO--we went then went to 7 falls and just like the name, it has 1 continuous waterfall that has 7 falls within it. Very very neat, however, it was over 250 steps to get to the top. That may not seem like a lot, but combine it with high elevation and VERY STEEP stairs! It makes me tired Amy with an asthma attack. Ooops!

Well, that's the trip in a nut shell. It was so much fun. We also played the license plate game. Anyone ever played that on a trip? Where you try to find all the US States while driving. Take a guess at how many states we saw. The closet one will get......ummm.....you'll get a post dedicated to your page giving you advertising (sorry that's as good as I've got!)

Happy Thursday! Get the Thursday Thirteen code here!

Caution!

We saw more than one of these signs while in Rocky Mountain National Park. Fiance and I were laughing slightly because the poor child in the picture looks like he has no chance. We were careful to stay away from the riverbanks, but there were still people climbing through the river on to rocks and such.

Fiance's reaction when he saw this sign, "So Amy pretty much if either of us falls in, we're dead." Hmmm, thanks for that comforting thought!

"Oh to live on Sugar Mountain"

Fiance plays that song quite a bit and I thought it was fitting seeing as this picture was taken on the top of Pike's Peak. Yes, I said TOP! We were 14,110 feet above sea level. Unfortunately, the weather was not cooperating so it is not as clear of a picture as I would like. You can tell we are above some clouds though. It started hailing (on July 6th mind you) on us right when we were boarding the cog railway to go back down. It was beautiful though. We only got to stay for 45 min because the air is very thin that high up and people can become dehydrated and become ill because of the elevation. Fiance and I both felt fine, just a little dizzy near the end. It was so worth it though!

Pike's Peak
Colorado Springs, CO
14,110 feet above sea level

Although it is not the highest peak in CO, it is one of the most well known throughout the US and one of the most climbed, and visited peaks!

Back home...and tired

We made it home! It took two days and about 17 hours to make it back from CO, but the trip was worth it. I can't even name all the things we did during the 10 days we were gone, but I thought I would post a few pictures. As you can probably guess, I'll be doing my Thursday 13 from the things we did. Here's just a few to keep you wanting more....

This is from Sioux Falls, SD and it is at a place called "Falls Park"! It is just beautiful!

This is the Badlands. So beautiful!

Here is one that needs no introduction! It's taken in black and white, and it had just rained so it looks as though they are sweating (it was really hot and sticky that day too!)

So thank you to Janet and goofy girl for being WONDERFUL guest bloggers. I appreciate the time you guys took to do that. Janet, what a wonderful idea for a 13. Too bad that more people didn't participate! Check back this week as I'll post more about our adventures and more pictures. Ahhh...I can't believe tomorrow is Monday and it's back to work.

Live from the ROCKIES!!!

Hey there! I am sitting here in Denver and I can see the Rockies from this computer. This is the 1st access to a computer that I've had. Unfortunately, their Wi-Fi didn't work so I can't post any pictures yet. However, I think I have taken over 300 pictures so far. We have had SO much fun and we aren't looking forward to coming home. Thanks to goofy girl and Janet (fondofsnape) for doing some guests posts. It looks like Janet may be doing one more so check back for that and I'll be home on Sunday and I will DEFINITELY post some pictures then.

Happy Thursday! (Sorry no 13 unless one of my guest posters gets ambitious!)

fond of snape guest post #1

Hi all! I'm Janet, aka fondofsnape! Amy asked me to be a guest poster while she's on vacation and so here I am! I'll follow goofygirl's lead and tell you a bit about myself: I'm OLD, I live with my dogs, Wolf and Max, and my Dad!

Max and Wolf

I am in LOVE with photography and nothing makes me more happy than spending a day taking pictures :-)

Friday and Sunday I had two shoots scheduled, both of children. After Sunday's shoot, I'm considering starting a business in which I'll travel to people's homes to photograph their children (or pets, or themselves) in a relaxed setting, versus dressing up the baby, taking him/her to the mall or photography studio, waitingwaitingwaiting, possibly giving the baby time to get cranky, etc. What do you think?

That's all for now, I hope you all have a safe and happy 4th of July!

Goofy Guest Post #2

I missed guest posting yesterday since I was away most of the day so I'd really like to say something but I really don't know what exactly to say. I made pancakes (strawberry & choco chip, yummy) with my friends today and then went to the pool - it was a very relaxing day. I'm meeting a high school friend for dinner and probably playing some tennis with my boyfriend and dog afterwards. The courts are lit up at night so we can play much later and when it's cooler!!

What did you do today?

Goofy Guest Post #1

Hello! I'm Goofy Girl for those who aren't familiar with me. I'm 25 and currently I'm in medical school. I live with my dog and my boyfriend. That's pretty much the basic info on me.

Yesterday I went to the outlets in Lancaster, PA with my mom. For those who don't know Lancaster is the home of some of the Amish. Since my mom and I took the backroads to the outlets we say many, many buggies out there. I really wonder what it would be like to be Amish. I wouldn't be blogging, I wouldn't be in medical school - I would probably be married and have several children, I would work long and hard on a farm all day. It just seems very different from my life now!!

Just finished printing out directions from mapquest for our ENTIRE trip and that took some time. I'm so excited! I can't wait to leave. Have a great 4th everyone!

Happy 4th of July to you all and blog with you in about 10 days!!!!

P.S. For those of you who have been watching for the answers to the questions, I will finish doing those when I return!

Answers Day Whatever :-)

So I believe this is the one that Janet has been waiting for!

Question: Is There Such Thing As A Werewolf?
Answer: (taken from the book--shortened!)
Lyncanthropy refers to the delusion that one is a wolf. This can definitely be seen in psychiatric illness, but it may be that in some cases this is not a delusion at all. The werewolf legend may have originated out of two medical conditions.
Porphyria is a rare hereditary blood disease. There are two types of porphyria. In one type, cutaneous porphyria, the symptoms can resemble the characteristics of a werewolf. These patients become extremely sensitive to sunlight, grow excessive amounts of hair, and develop sores, scars, and discolored skin. Porphyria also leads to tightening of the skin around the lips and gums, and can make the incisors stand out (think fangs!)
Another disease that may have contributed to the werewolf myth is congenital hypertrichosis universalis, sometimes known as the human werewolf syndrome. This is another rare genetic disorder characterized by excessive hair growth over the whole body, including the face.

Question: Why Do You See Stars When You Are Hit In The Head?
Answer: (you know the drill)
It always happened to Wile E. Coyote. The Road Runner drops an anvil on his head and then the poo coyote sees stars circling his head. Not only does this happen in cartoons but it is actually a sign of a concussion. A concussion is simply when an injury to the head causes your brain to move around inside your skull! As for the stars, what probably happens is that the portion of your brain that is responsible for visual information, the occipital lob, bangs up against the side of your skull.

So there, now that that is settled :-) Is anyone enjoying these? I've gotten some good feedback, but I'm just curious. We leave Friday afternoon for our vacation. Is there any way on blogspot to have posts that will post themselves when I'm gone? I was thinking about having "Guest" Bloggers, but I didn't know if anyone would be willing to do that. These are things I'm going to have to think about. Any suggestions?

Holy Hill

So Holy Hill is a Shrine I believe. It's only about 1/2 hour north of us, so we decided to go visit yesterday. It's a beautiful church and is just huge. It sits up on a hill about 1400 feet. It's just beautiful. Just thought I would share a picture. This doesn't do it justice, but I'm not the best photographer so this all you get! haha!

Answers Day 3

Well, Carmen wants to know why men have nipples! Well, here you go....
(Taken directly from the book!)
We are mammals and blessed with body hair, three middle ear bones, and the ability to nourish our young with milk that females produce in modified sweat glands called mammary glands. Although females have the mammary glands, we all start out in a similar way in the embryo. During development, the embryo follows a female template until about six weeks, when the male sex chromosome kicks in for a male embryo. The embryo then begins to develop all of its male characteristics. Men are thus left with nipples and also with some breast tissue. Men can even get breast cancer and there are some medical conditions that can cause male breasts to enlarge. Abnormal enlargement of the breasts in a male is known as gynecomastia. Gynecomastia can be caused by using anabolic steroids. So, if Barry Bonds ends up coming to the old-timers game with a pair of sagging 44DD man boobs, then I think we will finally have our answer to the steroid controversy.

Does that answer the nipple question? My blog is going to be getting some creepy hits with THC in the last entry and now nipples and steroids.

The answer to the question: Should You Put A Steak On A Black Eye?
(directly from book)
Ice is hardly as dramatic as a carefully placed porterhouse, but it does the same job. There is no magic in the beef, just cold and a little pressure. Keeping your head elevated and avoiding aspirin or ibuprofen, which can affect the ability of your blood to clot, also helps. The best idea is to avoid getting punched in the first place!

And....can you get Scared to Death?
(and yes...it's right from the book!)
**This is a long answer, so I am shortening it**
There is significant evidence that psychological and emotional stress can increase the likelihood of a heart attack. So it makes perfect sense that the stress of fear could lead to sudden death.

There, short and sweet. Happy Monday, everyone!

Sunday, June 25, 2006

Answers Day 2

Well, nobody seemed real interested in the answer from Friday, but ah, heck, I'll post some more anyway....

Question 2: Does Coffee Stunt Your Growth? (again, the answer is taken directly from the book!)
I, Billy Goldberg, would like to dedicate this answer to my good friend caffeine. He has been with me through good and bad times. Without him I would not have survived the long nights of my hospital residency (like goofy girl soon!!!) nor the deadline of this book. To my friend I proclaim, "I do not hold you responsible that I am only five foot nine!"
Actually there has been considerable research on whether caffeine consumption is linked to osteoporosis. Overall, it can be concluded that moderate caffeine consumption is not an important risk factor for osteoporosis, particularly where women consume a healthy balanced diet. Some research suggests that regular caffeine consumption may lead to loss of calcium in urine, but this does not have a measurable effect on bone density either. So as long as you have a balanced diet with adequate calcium intake, you can enjoy your espresso with no cause for concern!

Question 3: Why Do You Get The Munchies When You Are Stoned? (taken right from the book!)
Answer: To keep Domino's and Frito-Lay in business.
Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug in the United States. The main active chemical in marijuana is THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), or The High Causer. THC falls in the category of chemicals called cannabinoids.
A study in the April 2001 issue of NATURE helps us to better understand how marijuana causes users to have an increased appetite, the famous "munchies." Molecules called endocannabinoids, marijuanalike chemicals present in our own brain, bind with receptors in the brain and activate hunger. These endocannabinoids in the hypothalamus of the brain then activate cannabinoid receptors that are responsible for maintaining food intake. The chemicals from marijuana bind to these cannabinoid receptors and cause the munchies. Sound complicated? Maybe you're too stoned to understand! Go eat some cookie dough.

Hmmm...clear as mud right?

Well, I never said the answers would be easy to understand. I can't wait to see what searches bring up my blog with marijuana and THC in my entry!

The countdown is on to our week vacation in South Dakota and Colorado. We want to do so many things, but we only have so many days. We are thinking about taking the Cog railway up to Pike's Peak. It's a little pricey, but looks like it would be worth the trip. I've been to CO before, but haven't been to South Dakota. I can't wait!!!!

Who wants answers?

Well, I got quite a response that people want to know RIGHT NOW the answers to the questions. Well, I'm sorry...you only get 1 per day. It seems everyone only wants to read on Thursdays, and c'mon people, I'm not boring Friday-Wednesday, am I?

Here's the answer to the first question (The answer comes directly from the book!):
What causes an ice cream headache?
"Ah, the joy of a popsicle on a hot summer day. One theory places the source for the brain freeze in the sinuses, where the pain may be caused by the rapid cooling of air in the frontal sinuses. This triggers local pain receptors. Another theory postulates that the constriction of blood vessels in the roof and rear of the mouth causes pain receptors to overload and refer the pain to your head. There is a nerve center there, in the back of your mouth, called the sphenopalatine ganglion, and this is the most likely source of the dreaded ice cream headache. A friend of ours suggested a quick cure of rapidly rubbing your tongue on the roof of your mouth to warm it up. Her demonstration included a bizarre clucking sound. Leyner tried this and found himself followed by a large goose of whom he seems to have become inordinately fond."

So there you go everyone! The answer to the age old question. Click back tomorrow for another rousing answer to another question (and who said I wasn't educational?)

Thursday Thirteen!

Here we go....

I recently purchased the Book "Why Do Men Have Nipples?" and here are 13 interesting questions that the book asks....

  1. What causes an ice cream headache?
  2. Does coffee stunt your growth?
  3. Why do you get the munchies when you're stoned?
  4. Should you put a steak on a black eye?
  5. Can you get "scared to death"?
  6. Is there such a thing as a werewolf?
  7. Why do you see stars when you are hit in the head?
  8. What are age spots?
  9. What's up with the ear hair?
  10. Should you starve a cold and feed a fever?
  11. Do microwaves cause cancer?
  12. Why does hair turn gray?
  13. Can you swallow your tongue?

I'll be answering the questions in future blog entries in case you are interested in any of the answers!!! You know how to play...leave a comment, get a link :-) Happy Thursday!

Me and Mr. Linky-not currently on friendly terms!

So every week, I see all the "cool" people with the Thursday Thirteen and their "cool" little Mr. Linky where you don't have to worry about posting everyone's name. Well, Me and Mr. Linky are not currently speaking! I signed up for the thing, thinking "this is going to make my Thursdays so much easier!" Has it? No. Have I been able to use it? No. Why you ask? I can't figure out how to do it! So...needless to say, me and Mr. Linky have broken ties and I'll continue to spend my Thursdays putting up everyone's name like all the "uncool" people. Bitter? Oh yes.

I love kids. It's not something that I hide well either. So this weekend when my little cousin was in town, we had such a blast. I was able to play with her and get her to laugh and giggle. She enjoyed my parents pool as well! She walked around saying "pool" all day and would go to anyone willing to take her in the pool! She even had her own little dolphin floating device that she sat in very contently. I just can't believe how darn cute she is! And so smart. Her motor skills are wonderful. Even fiance was impressed with the amount of talent and smarts she has already at 18 months.

On another front, we think we may have figured out where we want our honeymoon. Fiance wants to go to St. Lucia and I'm fine with where ever we go as long as: there is a pool, there is sun and there is the ocean. We found a great Sandals Resort there that has gotten rave reviews on trip advisor as well. So we're checking out the options and seeing what we think we can get as a deal too! I think that is the most exciting part of planning: where are we going on our honeymoon?!?!?!

Has anyone been to St. Lucia? Where did you go on your honeymoon (if you've had one)?

Weekend Wrap-up

The family reunion was awesome! Fiance and I both had a great time. We got up to my hometown around 9:30 on Friday night and were up around 7:15am to start preparing. Fiance went to help my dad and I helped mom. It was fun. People started showing up around 12:30 and we left around 7:45pm. It was such a blast. My uncle who lives in my hometown flew up my other uncle (who lives in FL) and his wife and young daughter. It was a blast to see them. My uncle from FL had not been to WI in over 25 years. So needless to say, he was re-introduced to his family again :-)

Today is just cleaning, some grocery shopping and some relaxing. I can't believe tomorrow is Monday already.

How was your weekend?

P.S. That is a picture of my young cousin from FL. Isn't she adorable?

And the winner is...

So I've been getting these messages on my office phone saying that I won this bridal package and some perky woman keeps going "I can't wait to discuss the prizes in your package so please call me back at 555-5555 and we'll get that package out to you very soon. I am looking foward to talking with you and very excited about your win." I'm sure at the end she flipped her hair and did that smile as well. (Okay that wasn't very nice!) First of all, I don't remember signing up for any bridal packages and secondly, I don't believe I would have given out my work number. Nevertheless, it reminded me of a scam and I am refusing to call them back. What would you do?

Secondly, this week has just flown by. Dinner for my grandma was really nice...there were 12 of us and we had a great time. My mom made her a cake and we all ate and then enjoyed the wonderful Funfetti cake. My grandma loves the game SkipBo so I beat her twice in that game as well!

Yesterday, I had attended a "Children Come First" conference and it went well. I saw an excellent speaker on "Love and Logic" when parenting and dealing with children. It was very informative and I enjoyed his speech. He has four children of his own so he used some real experiences to tie in with his speech which I believe made the whole presentation believeable.

Today, I am just working and then heading back up to my parents (this time with fiance in tow) to help set up for the family reunion tomorrow. It's supposed to be 90 tomorrow so my relatives from FL will stop complaining about how "cold" it is up here. I do have some funny stories, but I think I'll save them for now. Any big plans this weekend?

Thirteen Thurday--EARLY!

Now, this week the banner is from Goofy girl!

Yes, I know it's only Wednesday, however, I am going to be gone tonight and at a conference tomorrow so I wouldn't be able to post until late tomorrow...and I wouldn't want to keep you all waiting! I will update this with links and visit others tomorrow night after the conference! Happy Thursday to you all!

Thirteen Things You Never Needed To Know About Me!

1. When I was younger, I had 3 imaginary friends (Eke, Peno, Doua Doua)
2. I have had a popples since I was very young and it still is on my bed!
3. I decided to cut my curtains when I was little "to see if they would cut" (Needless to say, I spent the rest of the day sitting in bed waiting until my father got home!)
4. While growing up there were older neighbors that lived next door and I "adopted them" as Grandparents.
5. When "Grandpa" passed away when I was 7, it was my first loss.
6. Someone said to name a star after him, but I said "Stars aren't big enough, he is the moon"
7. I have loved the moon ever since!
8. I'm an only child and have always feared something happening to my parents.
9. It took me forever to learn how to ride a two wheel bike. The way my mom got me to do it...bet me $5. If I learned to ride before my dad got home from work, I got $5. Guess who learned how to ride her bike that day?
10. I'm very stubborn and always have been. I was even stubborn before I was born...10 days late and was not coming out!
11. I've never had a huge group of friends. I have always preferred having a few very close friends.
12. I am very much a pack rat. I keep everything. I have just started to realize that it is okay to throw things out that I haven't used or looked at in 5 years (anything sooner than that is still in the closet :-) )
13. I don't know how to swim. I took swimming classes when I was younger and just hated it. My parents have a pool and I float around in there. Well, I do know how to do the doggy paddle!

Fun one

I found this over at Janet's and thought it was cool.

Your Dosha is Pitta

You have a quick mind, a gift for persuasion, and a sharp sense of humor. (very true!)

You have both the drive and people skills to be a very successful leader.

Argumentative and a bit stubborn, you have been known to be a little too set in your ways.

But while you may be biased toward your own point of view, you are always honest, fair, and ethical.
With friends: You are outgoing and open to anyone who might want to talk to you
In love: You are picky but passionate
To achieve more balance: Be less judgmental of those around you, and take cool walks in the moonlight.

Tuesday!

Well, it's Tuesday already! This past weekend, I had the wedding in the Twin Cities. It was a blast! I will post some pictures later on. I am behind on downloading my pictures. She was the most beautiful bride and we had wonderful dresses. My favorite part was the flowers! I will definitely post a picture of the flowers we carried. They were just so bright and wonderful. I had a great time. I got up at 6:45am to make it get my hair done at 8am. Makeup was done at 11 and then at the church at 12:15. Then we took some girl pictures before the wedding, service at 3, more pictures, limo ride to country club, more pictures, then let the party begin! There were wonderful speeches, great food, awesome cake and we danced the night away!

We went to Mall of America on Sunday and spent wayyy too much time and money there, but we had a blast. Then we went to IKEA which is right outside the mall. We found wonderful things for the apartment and we have been re-arranging and hanging new things since we got home. It was so much fun.

This weekend is a family reunion for my mom's side of the family. That should be fun. Tomorrow is my Grandma's 80th birthday (I can't believe that!) I am going up to my home town and we are all going out for dinner to celebrate.

How is your week going?

Monday Morning Humor

I will post more about the weekend later, but I got this picture in an email this morning and I thought it was funny. I actually thought of Nello because of a previous post where a neighbor was outside in white underwear and his dog was pooping in her yard! Let me know what you think of this picture!

Gone for the weekend

Fiance and I will be gone to the Twin Cities this weekend for my friend's wedding that I am standing up in! I finally picked up the dress and it fits!! It was freakin' expensive to have altered, but it looks nice. So we're off around noon and will be back Sunday afternoon or late evening. No posts until then!

Happy weekend everyone!!!

Thirteen excuses/reasons I hate to exercise

Banner courtesy of goofy girl
As a side note: my fiance is a personal trainer and I hate to exercise!!!!!
1. My reason for not canceling my membership: I'm hanging on to the hope!!!!
2. When asked if I am going to exercise, I say "Maybe 'morrow!"
3. Seriously, who LIKES to be sore and not able to move!
4. Gyms are like germ incubators.
5. It takes a lot of effort to change into work out clothes, drive to the gym, come home and shower.
6. I hate.hate.hate to sweat!
7. I would feel an obligation to eat better if I exercised.
8. If I did sweat, I would need to drink more water...and ewwww...I just don't like plain water.
9. Honestly, what else would I have to complain about?
10. I hate those people who go to the gym with their hair all made up and their make-up caked on....ummmm honey--you are at a gym....g-y-m.
11. It feels like whenever I'm there, there are at least two men by the weights attempting to lift WAYYY more than they can and grunting louder than I have EVER heard just to prove they can.
12. I love to say "oh I don't need to go to the gym today" "why not?" "Oh, I cleaned the house and took the stairs up to the apartment." Yeah, like that's helpful.
13. Moral of the story: as much as I complain, hate it (yes, even despise it), I still know I need to go. Oh well, maybe 'morrow!
You know how this works...leave a comment (more than just two words or I won't post you...sorry that's how it is!) and I'll leave a link with your name!

Wednesday

Well, today is another busy day. On top of all the work I have piled around me, I have to go pick up a bridesmaid dress. Now granted it's been done for 2 weeks, but have I gone to pick it up?? Noooooo. I'm surprised they haven't called numerous times to get that dress out of their store! I just honestly have not had the motivation to go pick it up. I know I have to pick it up today since the wedding is Saturday and we have to leave early on Friday to make it there (the wedding is 5 1/2 hours away from here). So needless to say instead of picking up the dress, I'm sitting here typing about it. Wow. Motivationally.Challenged.

The next couple weeks are just going to fly by...I can just feel it. Friday through Sunday this weekend we are in St. Paul/Minneapolis for the wedding. Then a week from today is my Grandma's 80th birthday and we are all going out to dinner to celebrate (2 hours from here). Then Thursday morning after the bday I have to get up around 5 to make it to Wisconsin Dells for a conference that I'm helping run a booth at to promote our agency. Then Friday we are going back up to my home town in order to help set up for a family reunion being held at my parent's house (I don't know why they always offer to host these things!!!) on Saturday. Then it's back home to start another week!!!

Whew. I'm tired just thinking about it.

Picky, picky, picky

As I was looking for something to eat for lunch, I realized that I must be one of the pickiest eater ever. And I mean e.v.e.r. Most of the foods that I don't eat aren't really for any good reason, I just don't like the texture or smell, but refuse to try most of them. I went out to eat with fiance a while ago and tried feta cheese (on accident) for the first time and you know what, I actually liked it. Yes, liked it.

I don't eat tomatoes or most vegetables for that matter and I'm very picky about fruit. I won't eat strawberries (I will occasionally) because I think they look like noses that have a lot of blackheads! Strange right? I know.

I don't like peas, however, I will eat split pea with ham soup. Strange again right? I'm trying to get past this extreme pickiness. It isn't fun...I don't like being picky. It also shortens our options for meals.

What are your likes and dislikes? Am I the only one who is this picky?

It's Thursday!

Special thanks to goofy girl for the banner!

With the help of fiance, I am doing my 13 favorite movie quotes!
(Can you get all the movies right?)
***I'll post the answers tomorrow!!!!***
  1. "Jack Sparrow: No. Not good. Stop. Not good. What are you doing? You've burned all the food, the shade, the RUM. Elizabeth: Yes, the rum is gone. Jack Sparrow: Why is the rum gone?"
  2. "I wipe my own ass! I wipe my own ass!!"
  3. "Life should be a little nuts. Otherwise, it's just a bunch of... Thursdays, strung together."
  4. "President Andrew Shepherd: This is a time for serious people, Bob, and your 15 minutes are up. My name is Andrew Shepherd, and I AM the President. "
  5. Max: "My teacher tells me that beauty is on the inside." Dad: "That's just something ugly people say."
  6. Rick: I wanna see your a$$ in the air. Kate: Well until Hercules here learns how to lock his grip, this will have to do... (hint: Toe Pick!!)
  7. "Back to school....back to school...show my dad...I'm not a fool"
  8. "I just don't think that Brooke could've done this. Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't kill their husbands, they just don't."
  9. "Mr. Madison, what you have just said, is the most insanely idiotic thing I have ever heard. At no point, in your rambling incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul. "
  10. "Tess: You're a thief and a liar. Danny: I only lied about being a thief."
  11. "The way I see it, you got two choices. You either gotta get busy livin'... or get busy dyin' "
  12. "I have what doctors like to call a little bit of a weight problem. "
  13. "ROBBIE:Hey,I don't know your last name. GLENN:It's Gulia. ROBBIE:Gulia!Julia's last name's gonna be Gulia!Julia Gulia!That's funny! GLENN:Why is that funny? ROBBIE:I-I don't know. "

Okay, you know the rules. Just like always, leave a comment so I can put your link up (and you have to say something more than "mine's up") This week, however, try to guess the movies. The person with the most correct will win....well, you'll just feel special! :-) Isn't that enough? Good luck!

What a week!

Well, this week has had its ups and downs. Tuesday I went to a Brewer game with fiance and his friend. Then Thursday we went to the Tim McGraw/Faith Hill Soul 2 Soul II tour. Now some people like country and some don't, but I will post a picture of the concert. If you don't like country, that's fine, just don't leave nasty messages.

Then yesterday, my puppy was put to sleep. My parents said it did not take her long to go which is good. She really was the best puppy anyone could ask for. She is now in doggy heaven bragging about how cool her owners were :-) That's what's keeping me smiling! I know she was one of the most spoiled dogs ever!

Other than that, it's cleaning this weekend and maybe having some friends over for dinner. Since I do okay with making lasagna, that's what I'll make. How was your week?

I'm thinking about starting a "Would you rather" Monday or something. We'll see how that goes. And on a happy front, goofy girl has started my new blog design and it's coming along great! Hopefully it'll be up and running this summer so we can do a big debut! :-)

Happy Saturday!

A Thursday without a 13? What?

Sorry everyone, but I'm taking today off. Fiance and I took the day off together so we're going away for the day. I know you all will miss me terribly, but try to get over it :-)

Have a wonderful Thursday!

Instead of having 13, read the two posts below. Thanks!

Everyone....meet Cashew!

This is my puppy, Cashew. She is 13 1/2 years old. Unfortunately, she has become pretty old, pretty fast and is being put down on Friday. I was very upset about this at first, but I visited her last weekend and realized that she's not enjoying her doggy life anymore. She is soooo cute! She is 12 pounds and has been the light of my mom's life. She has doggy alzeihmer's (sp?) too because she doesn't seem to remember where she is! She is still a good eater and loves popcorn, peanut butter and other things. She had some lasagna this past Christmas too :-)

I just thought I would introduce her to everyone so that you can all see why she is so special to me! Oh and the only trick I taught her (my mom was in charge of tricks) was pointing to my face and saying "kissy" and oh boy were you attached with kisses!!!! What a loving and wonderful dog. She will truly be missed!!!! So say hello to Cashew!!!

Weekend wrap-up

Well, it was quite the weekend. I went up to see my mom on Saturday morning and stayed until this morning. It was great to see her. I found out on Friday that my parents made an appointment to put my puppy to sleep this Friday. I'm not doing too well with this. So on top of giving mom presents and going out to eat, I had to say goodbye to my puppy. This pretty much broke my heart. She's 13 1/2 and THE BEST PUPPY EVER!!!!
I was trying to upload a picture, but it won't let me. I'll post it tomorrow.

Anyway, on to some happy news...I asked my "sister" (yes, I'm an only child, but she's the closest I have to a sister) to be my maid of honor this weekend and she said YES! So that was super exciting. I can't wait to have a helper :-)

Well, that's it for me. I'll post that picture soon :-)

Friday

I don't have much to say today (imagine that!) I am glad it's Friday. I've had an annoying stomach ache for three days now.

However, I am excited that Goofy Girl has said she would help me makeover my blog when summer vacation starts!!!! I am so excited. Check her out...she has other designs available too. There is a link to her designs from her webpage.

Also, if you haven't checked Janet out, you should! She has entertaining and fun posts! She does a "What Is It" on Wednesday and does the TT on Thursdays! Enjoy those two.

Happy Friday everyone!

It's that time again....

Thirteen Things That Stress This Blogger Out!
1. Thinking about going back to school full-time and working full-time
2. Having a lot of things due at work at the same time!
3. Having four weddings this summer, two of which I'm in
4. The cost of those two weddings I'm in
5. Thinking about all the planning for my wedding (and attempting some of it!)
6. Trying to keep this apartment clean with all the other things
7. Paying all the bills (and on time even!)
8. Keeping up with all my emails (you'd be surprised that this honestly is a struggle some days!)
9. Trying to catch up on scrapbooking instead of stuff being all over the apartment
10. Finishing up a blanket for my parents that I thought I would have given them last year for Christmas (oops)
11. Wasting too much time and then realizing that I can't get things done that I need to.
12. Not getting enough sleep because then the next day is oh so not fun!
13. Does anyone want to be in an online book club? (Just checking to see if you read to the bottom!)
Just like every other week, leave me a message and I'll put you up. Don't just leave "nice list, mine's up" or I won't list you. Sorry, that's the way it is.
4. Goofy Girl (she skipped this week, but check her out anyway!)

one more thing today...

I wasn't going to write anything today, but does anyone have a random blog design laying around or wants to share with me? I am so sick of the stupid ones that blogger gives you choices of and I don't know how to design my own. OH well, just a thought.

Just a simple picture....

Our hiking trip!

Read below to find where these came from!

  • My experiment with black and white. This is a shelter for backpackers who want to camp out. We are looking out at a really cool outlook!

This trout was in a really clear spring where you can ONLY catch and release! A grave stone at a super old cemetary. This was from 1800.
This old cabin was also from the 1800's. It's boarded up though. Still awesome!

Book Club

So, my really good friend, Katie (who I called my sister--long story!) and I were talking today about how much we love to read and how it would be SO neat to join a book club. Then we thought about how we could run an online book club through a blog.....so.....would anyone be interested? It probably wouldn't be up and running for a few months yet. Any takers? Leave me a message and let me know what you think. We wouldn't read books from the 1800's either!

Weekend update!

Well, this weekend just flew by! I can't believe it's Monday and I'm working again! For those that left me comments on Friday, I kind of got a new outfit for the wedding. I got a new shirt and put it with a skirt I already had and I was satisfied. Fiance and I looked really nice for the wedding! It was soooo much fun and we even got up and danced a few times! Instead of a cake, they had a chocolate fountain and instead of a "head" table, they sat at the round tables among everyone else! It was great!!!!

Yesterday, we went hiking and biking. Now, I am not the most active person in the world and so I.am.sore. I don't even know how long we went but we were gone for almost 5 hours. It was a blast though! I will post some pictures from the trip if anyone wants to see them! Just let me know. We saw an old cemetery that had a few headstones from 1796!!!! The trail is called the Ice Age Trail and goes all through Wisconsin. It's such a neat trail. If anyone lives in WI, I highly suggest going on at least part of the trail!

Today, I am back to work and the apartment is still not clean. Hmmm....bummer! Thankfully all the dishes are done and everything is picked up, it's just the dusting and vacuuming that needs to be done!

Happy Monday!!!

Another week gone by...

Honestly, I can't believe it's Friday. I have had a very hectic week and it's ending with an even more hectic Friday. I am currently *ahem* working and then from 12-2 I have grad. school orientation. Then since I worked 10 hours the other day, I am taking off this afternoon. I don't think I ever did post about my Wednesday. (Note to all--I am NOT a morning person). I woke up at 4:00am (no, that's not a typo) and got ready to leave. I then drove an hour to get to a radio station before 6:30am to be interviewed for the agency I work for. Now, I love being on the radio...it's fun, energetic and the hosts were a blast. However, I'm not pretty at 6:30am nor do I try to be pretty at that time. So thankfully this was radio and not TV. Then I drove another hour home to continue working for another 8 hours for a total of 10 1/2 hours of work. Now, I do realize that some people work 10 or 12 hour shifts, however, I don't so that was a long ass day for me.

We have a wedding to go to tomorrow and of course I have.nothing.to.wear. Nothing. I keep trying to tell fiance that but he just doesn't believe me when he opens up my closet and stuff falls out! hmmm...I need to work on another strategy I think. I told him that I *guess* I'll try to come up with something. I do need shoes though.

Anyway, that's it for me. How was your week? Paris was cut from American Idol, CSI and Without a Trace were excellent. I hear Amazing Race is getting down to the wire and Alias is heating up before the final show ever! I'm excited for Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy this week. When Meredith says "You have no right to call me a whore" or something like that. Hmmm, that'll be interesting.

Anyway, I'm off. Have great weekends and comon people, you visit, at least say hi!

Thursday Thirteen!

Thirteen TV Shows Amy Loves!

1. FRIENDS--I will always love this show! It's just one of my favorites (I have almost all the seasons on DVD).
2. Grey's Anatomy--What a wonderful, fairly new, show. I enjoy the characters, the story lines and the humor of the show!
3. Alias--I never liked this show at first, but a friend loves it and got me watching it. Now I'm hooked and it ends soon!
4. American Idol--I really do enjoy watching these 'artists'. Some are good and some are bad, but overall, I just enjoy the singing and watching people strive for their dreams.
5. Desperate Housewives--although I do think last season was better than this season, it's still great to see those 5 ladies so their things on the show!
6. Prison Break--I'm glad to see they are finally starting to escape (although I missed the last 15 min. last week cause fiance came home and had a rough day at work) so I'll be curious to see where they are next show!
7. Amazing Race--I used to watch this one all the time but then they moved it to Wednesday and it runs the same time as AI results so I don't get to see this one any more. **Thanks Carmen for catching my original mistake :-)
8. Extreme Makeover-Home Edition--yes, this show makes me cry, maybe that's why I watch it. And yes, I like Ty (he's super hyper, but it's great!)
9. The View--I do enjoy watching this if I take a short break in the morning (10-10:15 my time) just to catch them debating "Hot Topics" I am going to miss Meredith and I honestly don't know if I'll watch it when she's gone. Star drives me nuts.
10. Oprah--if she has an interesting topic or a cool guest star, I will watch her. I enjoyed watching her series on Debt Dieting and it taught me a lot on how to manage mine and fiance's budgets so it's worth it!
11. Everybody Loves Raymond--another show I was sad to see go, but there are always repeats on TBS that I catch every once in a while. It's a good show to watch while working out too because you can laugh and you forget how much pain you are putting your body through (haha!)
12. CSI:--LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this show! I love all the characters, I love watching them try to figure things out...I just love it!
13. Without a Trace--this is actually one that fiance enjoys too and he gets excited to watch this one. Not so gory and I really enjoy seeing them put all the pieces together by the end. Although I do not like it when they find out the person is already dead. That's sad :(

American Idol night!

Who do you think did best tonight?

Who do you think will be kicked off?

Let me know after the show. It'll be interesting to see what you all think. I'll post my thoughts after the show!

**For some reason, blogger wouldn't allow me to update last night, however, I do believe that Paris will be going home (actually, I think it's more of a hope...I'm just over her now and I wouldn't buy her CD, that's for sure!) What do you think???

Another Manic Monday

Hello! I had a fairly exciting weekend, but am glad to have a new week started. I have a lot of stuff to accomplish this week and then we have a wedding to attend on Saturday. We are excited about that.

I am excited for a fun-filled TV week. With the finales coming up this month, it'll be exciting to see how the shows end on cliffhangers! Tonight is Prison Break and apparently it is the start of the break (FINALLY!!!) Then it's AI on Tuesday and Wednesday. We have CSI: and Without a Trace on Friday and Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy on Sunday!!! WOOHOO!!!

How was your weekend?
